A friendly reminder to all dog owners visiting Wascana Centre that you are required to keep your dog leashed at all times.

Here are a few good reasons why you should keep your dog on a leash:

1.It keeps your dog safe.

Keeping your dog on a leash eliminates the risk of your dog following a squirrel into traffic, or running onto thin ice during the winter months.  Without a leash there is nothing preventing you from keeping your dog from eating something he’s not supposed to, stepping into a beehive or becoming separated from you, despite how “well-trained” he may be.

2. It keeps other dogs and animals safe.

Even if your dog is “friendly,” not everyone else’s dog is. Your dog could easily cause a fight if he approached a reactive on-leash dog.  Wascana Centre is home to many species of wildlife and an off-leash dog could harass or attack the wildlife and destroy the habitats they call home, or even worse, cause death.   It is important that Wascana Centre is a safe place for all types of animals.

3. People have a right to enjoy Wascana Centre without your dog bothering them.

Not everyone is comfortable around dogs, even if your dog is friendly and merely curious. Please allow parkgoers to enjoy their time outdoors without the risk of being approached by an exuberant, jumping dog.   An off-leash dog could also be a danger to cyclists, pedestrians, and vehicles by running into their path of travel, cutting them off.
